This summer, CARC is bringing back boot camp! This 3-day virtual camp takes place from June 12-14 and consists of multiple topics related to HPC ranging from beginner tutorials to advanced concepts. Think of this as a crash course on all our most popular workshops to get you ready for the Fall 2023 semester.
The topics covered during boot camp will combine lectures with hands-on experience where participants will get the chance to navigate CARC systems and resources with the guidance of a highly-knowledgeable member of the CARC team.
Registration for the camp is split by day (Day 1, Day 2, & Day 3). Each day has two 3-hour long sessions; one session in the morning from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM PST and one in the afternoon from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM PST. There will be 5 minute breaks in between topics. Anyone interested in attending can register for any combination of days, but we encourage you to attend all three.
Day 1
Day 1 consists of beginner tutorials. Participants will learn about CARC, how to manage data and software, running jobs, Unix shell, and AWS cloud computing basics.
Day 2
The first topic of day 2 is split between HPC with R and HPC with Python. Participants will be divided into breakout rooms depending on their programming language of interest. The remaining topics include software containers with Singularity and computational biology on CARC systems. We will also have a guest workshop with the Pegasus team where participants can learn about scientific data processing with Pegasus WMS.
Day 3
Day 3 consists of our most advanced topics. Participants will get hands-on experience with MPI for Python, parallel programming using MPI, machine learning, and deep learning. We expect there will be time for questions after each session.
We look forward to seeing you at our 2023 summer boot camp soon!
