Updates to Loading Software Stack Modules

Many of you may have noticed some changes recently with loading modules on CARC systems. This announcement outlines the newest setup and procedure.

Recently we updated our gcc compiler from version 8.3 to 11.3. Our current complete software stack is based on gcc 11.3. As a result, we are no longer automatically loading module usc upon login. In order to use the current stack, manually enter module load usc/11.3.

Manually entering module load usc will allow you to use the previous stack based on gcc 8.3. Please note : the new software stack has been optimized to run on our newer compute nodes. Older nodes with xeon-2650v2 CPUs can only use the software stack based on gcc 8.3. These nodes are in debug and oneweek partitions on Discovery and a few nodes on Endeavour.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please submit a help ticket or reach out to carc-support@usc.edu.
